Police has registered a case against the Army personnel for allegedly stealing wooden logs from Yanner village of Pahalgam. Police has seized the vehicle and arrested its driver.
According to reports Army personnel pertaining to 3 RR allegedly stole 200 wooden logs during the intervening night of 3rd and 4th April from the compound of the house of local, Abdul Rehman from Yanner Pahalgam. As Army personnel were allegedly loading these wooden logs into a Tata 407, the inmates raised alarm bell.
“We tried our best to stop the Army personnel but they managed to flee along with the timber. They threatened us and triggered their weapons on us,” Abdul Rehman told CNS adding that they lodged a complaint in Pahalgam police station against the army men. Though the police officials preferred to remain tight lipped over the incident but the reliable sources in police confirmed that a case under section 379 vide FIR, 20/2013 was lodged against 12 unidentified army men from 3 RR stationed at Sallar Pahalgam.
Though Station House Officer refused to comment on the issue, however a police official said that the arrested driver has confirmed the involvement of Army personnel in this theft. When contacted, top Army officer from Chinar Crops, Colonel Brijesh Pandey termed the allegations baseless and said it has been confirmed that some civilians have resorted to theft while Army has no role in it.
