Once known as borough of young soldiers in its ranks, the reducing number of youth from Punjab is causing concern in the army.
General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Command, Lt. Gen. Sanjiv Chachra, expressed the concern to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during a meeting.
Gen. Chachra said that this was due to the deteriorating health and energy levels of Punjabi youth. He said that earlier Punjab was a major recruitment area for the Indian Army.
Badal said the Punjab government had established the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces preparatory institute in Mohali near Chandigarh and two National Cadet Corps (NCC) academies at Ropar and Malout.
He said that plans were afoot to start an intensive Services Selection Board (SSB) training centre for girls.
Gen. Chachra also offered to initiate joint plans for ensuring more recruits from the state in the army.

Main reasons of the Punjabi’s and Keralites are not coming to armed forces are:-

c) Rush to make more money,
d) Easy money concepts,
e) Good education systems,
f) Rich food consuming habits,
g) Lack of poverty,
h) Change in society concepts about the forces,
i) Downgraded the respect about the army,
j) Easy procedure to migration to European countries especially the American country’s , Canada, Persian -Gulf area etc are the main reasons.
In Olden times the younger generation is not aware of the reality of the forces but everything’s are available in the net so they got vide choice to select the carrier.
Lesser the better. Now-a-days they are neither here nor there but everywhere.They are the ones who has vitiated the environment with their no hold barred approach which includes dishonesty to get a things done.Today what we see in the Armed forces especially the Army, the honest reflections of the culture of greed and dishonesty contributed mostly by the Punjabies.It is better that the armed forces shift gears from height and chest to technically sound soldiers. None is required here to hold 35 kg Swords to kill an approaching enemy. Army must reflect true colours of India south and North East bound.
