Chennai police arrested an Army man, Siva, 36, on charges of cheating a widow. Bharathi, 33, a resident of Chitlapakkam, complained to police that Siva had a physical relationship with her after promising to marry her, but he ditched her.
Police said Siva has been speaking to Bharathi over phone for the past 18 months. He called her last week to say that he was coming on two months vacation to his home town Thirukovilur near Villupuram. As per their plan, Bharathi received him at Egmore railway station. They went to the house of Siva’s friend Prabhu. They decided to get married, but as Siva was leaving, he went back on his promise, Bharathi said in her complaint.
Police arrested Siva and remanded him in prison.
