An Indian Navy officer, who had chosen the path of crime for his lover and turned into one of the most notorious and wanted criminals, has again been nabbed.
Amit Kamboj, who was wanted in over 35 cases of robberies and extortion in Punjab and who has almost made it a hobby to escape from the police custody, has been arrested from Karnal in Haryana with a loaded pistol and a stolen.
Amit in his most recent escape had hoodwinked the cops of Punjab police on February 23 this year and got away while being taken to Faridkot jail after a court hearing.
Haryana police officers said that Amit, a resident of Karnal, had started his criminal activities in 2004 by murdering his girlfriend’s brother-in-law Ranbir Singh Mann, who was against their marriage. Amit was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2007 and after serving his punishment for some time there he was granted parole.
But he never returned to jail and fled to Punjab where he formed a gang and performed a series of robberies in various cities of Punjab including Rajpura, Ludhiana, Ropar, Mohali, Hoshiarpur and was nabbed by the cops in 2008.
Last year in November when Amit was brought to a court in Mohali in Punjab he burnt the turban of a head constable, who had dared to pass a comment against his girlfriend Ritu Verma.
Police officers said that after escaping from the custody of Punjab police Amit alongwith Ritu Verma in April this year hired an Indica Car and robbed cash and a mobile phone from the driver of a vehicle at gun point and ran away with the car.
He said that Amit also threatened to kill the jail superintendent of the women’s jail in Ludhiana because the mother of his girl friend Ritu Verma, Doli was a prisoner in that Jail.
