Massive protests erupted in Baramulla district of north Kashmir today after a 22-year-old man was killed by the Army in a case which it describes as that of mistaken identity.
Ashique Hussain, a resident of Lesar village in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district, was allegedly killed outside his house at around 9 pm on Friday during firing by security forces.
“I have received various versions of the incident. We will ascertain the facts and any action will follow after that, ” said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
A defence spokesman said troops of 32 Rashtriya Rifles and police had launched a joint operation in the area following information about presence of militants there.
The Army has reportedly said that it was an incident of mistaken identity.
