A grainy video of BSF jawans mercilessly beating up a suspected cow smuggler on the Bangladesh border has sent ripples across the country. The men in uniform are seen stripping the Bangladeshi, tying him up and hitting him with sticks as he cries for mercy. There are reports that the victim died and was thrown across the border but this is not confirmed yet. The incident happened on Monday near the Kaharpara border outpost, about 7km from Murshidabad’s Behrampur.
It would have perhaps been forgotten as just another border statistic but for a quirk of fate. The BSF jawan who captured the assault on his cellphone took it to an IT store in nearby Raninagar to download some ringtones. The owner was shocked to see the video, made copies of it and circulated the CDs among journalists and rights activists. On Wednesday, the gory video was on all the news channels.
The victim, Salim Sheikh of Nawabgunj in Bangladesh, was caught smuggling cows from Char Mourushi, an island on River Padma. The video footage shows him being stripped naked and beaten savagely with a baton. Two jawans tie his hands to a length of bamboo and twist it in a form of medieval torture, leaving Salim screaming in agony. “Hit him on the knees,” someone is heard egging on the jawans. Another calls for tea. “Chai pilao, bhai,” he says.

Dear Officers and Media . Kindly not publish this type news. If BSF Jawan not done their duty, then smugglers or enemy’s are in coming to our nation and attack our country. Please give more power to BSF otherwise Bengal government or Bengali nationals are attacked BSFJawans or Central Govt not supported indian force.
Both governments should come forward and take necessary steps against this barbarism. This was something against humanity! This is not the first time BSF tortured a Bangladeshi. They also killed many of the Bangladeshis showing the excuse of self-defense. Does the video show us any signs of self- defense? After the torturing and killing of Felani(a Bangladeshi girl), the indian government promised to take actions against these incidents. But they do not seem to keep their promise. What would have india do if it were a US citizen instead of a Bangladeshi? I guess they would’ve kissed his *** instead of beating him up.
I have nothing to say..I had a great respect for indian I guess I am wrong!!!!!! I hope majority of the Indian good hearted people with humanity will oppose these barbaric act perpetrated by some ignorant and hatfull fithy BSF. And I also honestly hope that the GOvt. of Indian will do the right thing bringing these people to justice.
These jawans should face the same punishment in full public view to hinder any such vile behaviour in the future. Corrupt officials should be sent to guantanamo.
