Army’s golf courses are illegal: CAG

26 03 2011

Indian Army Golf CourseThe Comptroller and Auditor General has said all 97 Army golf courses are “unauthorised” and Army authorities are “exploiting” them to earn revenue.

In its latest report on the management of defence estates, CAG has said the golf courses that cover over 8,000 acres are not authorised and the Army is wrong in using government land to generate profits. “Scales of accommodation don’t include golf as an authorised activity. Hence, golf courses and attendant activities can’t be considered military activities and A1 land can’t be used for golf courses,” it notes. “Revenue (so) generated was not credited to government account, but presumably credited to regimental fund.’’
