The police have booked Army Sepoy Roshan Singh Gurjjar (27), a native of Karoli, Rajasthan and attached to Madras Regiment here, for murdering his three-month-old daughter at his G D Colony residence on Command Hospital campus on February 6.
Police said Gurjjar was disturbed and frustrated as his wife Bhagwan Devi was ailing for a long time. He was finding it difficult to look after Devi and two small daughters. He had allegedly strangulated his daughter Guddi Gurjjar out of frustration around 6 pm on February 6.
He took Devi to the Command Hospital in Wanavdi for treatment after the incident when some neighbours went to his house on hearing his elder daughter crying.
They found the infant unconscious and rushed her to hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Though the Wanavdi police initially registered an accidental death case, the post-mortem report mentioned injury marks on the infant’s neck. A murder case was registered later and investigation revealed that Gurjjar had murdered the baby. Senior police inspector Shivajirao Kanese said Gurjjar was the last person who went into the room where the baby was kept.
Meanwhile, Gurjjar has been admitted to Command hospital for depression. Police said he would be arrested once he is discharged from the hospital.
