22 09 2010

At least two army officials killed and 41 others injured when a portion of glacier collapsed at the Kamet Mountain in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

According to the sources, Colonel Puran Chandra and Major Manoj Gusain were killed when a major portion of ice fell on the convoy.

The Army expedition to Mt. Kamet comprised of six officers, three JCOs and 38 jawans. The rescue operation has been launched but relentless rain and bad weather conditions have been obstructing the rescue operation.
